I went to Crater Lake a couple weeks ago and I was expecting to get a nice landscape shot of the gorgeous view of the lake, which I did, but I never though that one of my favorite photos will be about a chipmunk asking for more food with Crater Lake’s blue waters as the background. I know! I know! what an abandoned blog! well, this is my story: I started my photography life with a point and shoot and “upgraded” to a bridge camera (a Canon Powershot S3-IS) which I used for about 2 years. Six months ago I got closer to a real pofessional photographer job at a photo studio called Bill Smith Photography in Roseville, CA, where I used to live before moving to Portland OR with my wife. Well, when I started using REAL cameras at the studio, my little bridge cam wasn’t enough to satisfy my creative needs, so I kind of feel frustrated every time I grab it to photograph something… so now I’m sure that it’s time for a REAL upgrade.

Because of the frustration, I actually stopped taking photos, ergo updating my flickr and this photoblog, and now I’m updating both with some of my work from the studio.

About the Photo

One of the photo packages at the studio offers a session called “Passionate Pursuit” where teens bring their props related to their hobby like sports, music or photography, like this girl who loved photography and painting so she came to the session with some oil paints and this Canon film camera. Everybody at the studio are Nikon/Fuji users, everybody except for me and this talented girl. So I created this double exposure image using a black background (obviously).

In the last of three days of camping in the Oregon Forest for this Labor day I took this photo of this patch of burned trees. The surroundings of this area was full of green and life but I decided to photograph the “ugly” part of this forest using a color accent function of my P&S.

This is the popular Point Reyes Lighthouse where lots of people drive then walk through the almost 330 steps stair (including my wife and me). This is a beautiful place with lots of photographic oportunities.

This is the gorgeous view of the Point Reyes beach from the top of the hill whre the lighthouse is located. The wind is cold and wet and you can see an almost 360 degree view of the green/blue color sea.

I took this picture from the car in our way back home from the lighthouse in Point Reyes after a freezing but beautiful afternoon at the top of the lighthouse hill.  This picture reminds me invevitablely to the Pink Floyd 1970 album tltled Atom Heart Mother, if you like psichodelyc music, this is the album.

Definitively I need to remove the barbed wire, that’s a to do.

The last weekend was our Weding Anniversary and to celebrate it we decide to get out of the dungeon (our apartment) and have a romantic day at the beach. The beach picked was Point Reyes, 2 hour driving plus 30 min. driving through hills and cows (yes, beach cows) to see the amazing landscape that the lighthouse and the infinite sea offer to us.

Like almost always, I took this one using a polarizer filter and the P mode in my camera.

This is it! the very first post (besides the test post of course). This photo blog is almost completely functional and obviously I will add more features in the future.

About the photo: I took this one in the Santa Cruz beach, me and my wife walked all the beach then we stopped in this lighthouse area and this concrete structures placed there to protect the old lighthouse from erosion called strongly my attention so I took pictures of this from diferent angles and this is one of my favorites. I’ll post more versions of this photo in the future.

This post is just for testing purposes. About the shot: this is a Portland, OR golf course. I’m not into golf, just played for fun that day, then start taking pictures, unfortunately my UV filter got dirty so the camera auto fcus focused the dust in the filter.Anyway, this is just a test post to configure WordPress properly.
